Resealable (Large) Mylar Pouches - Long-Term Food Storage
New and improved. Now includes a built-in Zip-seal
When it comes to long term food storage, one often hears the name of Mylar Bags or Pouches, but what are these exactly?
A Mylar Pouch is a type of food-grade, flexible packaging made from a polyester film called Mylar that has a high barrier to avoid food contamination caused by moisture, oxygen or light. Mylar is a brand name for a polyester film produced by the company DuPont.
Do not be fooled by thinking all Mylar bags are equal. Although certain suppliers may call their products Mylar, look at the construction of the Pouch (i.e. is it food safe) and most importantly, check the thickness in microns to ascertain the quality of the pouch. Anything less than 76µm (microns) is not considered Mylar of high-barrier.

Most dried foods, in particular Freeze-dried foods are susceptible to Moisture, Oxygen and Light (in that order).
